Matt Paradis (Boise St)

Footballamericain.com: Matt, first of all, I would like to warmly thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. The French football fans will be delighted to have the opportunity to better know you before the coming Draft. You were invited to the NFL combine a few weeks ago. How did you prepare for this event, and how did you perform there?

Matt Paradis: To prepare for the combine I went down to Atlanta, Georgia and trained at Chip Smith Performance Systems. At Chip’s facility we spent about six hours total hours a day working out, these workouts would encompass speed work, weight lifting, and positional drills all designed to help us be ready for the combine. I feel like I did very well in the combine, especially in the pro-agility and 3-cone drills and the position drills.

Footballamericain.com: You have spent 5 years as a Bronco. Tell us more about your journey in Boise. What are your best memories and achievements there?

Matt Paradis: I came to Boise State as a defensive tackle, and I played there for about a year, earning the Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year. Shortly after that, my coaches switched me to the offensive line and I played there for the rest of my career, earning my first start sophomore year, and becoming a full time starter for my junior and senior seasons. My best memory and achievement at Boise State came in my junior season when we capped off a solid season with a great bowl win over The University of Washington to finish the season 11-2.

Footballamericain.com: From a more personal perspective, what did you learn about yourself after these 5 years in college?

Matt Paradis: I personally learned that I can push myself farther than I ever thought possible, that if I don’t give up on something then I will achieve it.

Footballamericain.com: You started 27 games at Boise State and played in eight others. Almost all of your starts were at center but you also had to play guardGuard

on occasion. This means you are coming with real experience and versatility. How would you describe your abilities to the scouts, and what aspect of your game did you improve the most last year?

Matt Paradis: I am a hard-working and smart player. I am going to know my responsibilities, and I am going to take care of them as well. Last year I worked mostly on some minor technique changes such as hand placement, and stopping the bull rush.

Footballamericain.com: You demonstrated your leadership skills under Coach Petersen's tenure, and he has since moved to Washington. Can you say a few words about him?

Matt Paradis: Coach Petersen is an outstanding head coach, and I was blessed to play under him. He taught us to not only be great football players, but also great students and he also emphasized just being a good person in all facets of life, which was very important to him.

allowed in 2013; the year before, your line was first in FBS in sacks allowed. What do you credit the overall success of the line to?

Matt Paradis: Our coaching staff always has done a great job in game planning and figuring out how to keep the other team from getting to our QB, and then from there the offensive line and myself would make any adjustments necessary to keep the QB from getting hit.

Footballamericain.com: You compete in the Mountain West Conference: which player has impressed you the most during your college football career?

Matt Paradis: I have to go with a player from my own team, Demarcus Lawrence. He just has a great story coming from a junior college to becoming one of the best players in the conference and he came out early after last season to put his name in for this upcoming draft.

Footballamericain.com: How would you qualify your game? What are your main strengths and weaknesses?

Matt Paradis: My strengths are my quickness off the snap of the ball, athleticism, and physical nature. The only weakness that I may have would be that I am not one of those huge O-lineman.

Footballamericain.com: What would you answer to the people saying that your size may be a concern at the next level for an interior lineman?

Matt Paradis: I can put on more weight, and I also make up for that weight difference through my quickness and intelligence.

Footballamericain.com: Tell us about the specificity of being a Center. What have been your favorite and least favorite moments on a Football Field?

Matt Paradis: Center is kind of thought of as the QuarterbackQuarterback

of the offensive line, because all of the calls start with him, in every play. The center also has the green light to make any adjustments to calls in order to take care of blitzes. My favorite moment on a field is seeing a running backRunning Back (RB)

Footballamericain.com: What NFL player do you think you compare favorably to?

Matt Paradis: I try to model my game after Jason Kelce, the center for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Footballamericain.com: Regarding the coming draft, you are kind of a sleeper and the experts are seeing you drafted around the sixth round. What are your personal expectations?

Matt Paradis: I have no expectations, I am ready to get drafted, or I can be not drafted and be a free agent, I just want to get into a camp and show what I can do from there.

Footballamericain.com: You are originally from Council, Idaho. Any NFL team you grow up rooting for?

Matt Paradis: When I was young I was a Packers fan, but as I got older I didn’t have any specific favorite.

Footballamericain.com: When you get your first professional paycheck, what is the first thing you will buy?

Matt Paradis: I really don’t plan on buying any major purchases immediately. I am the type of person that needs to be extremely financially secure before I will make any major financial commitments.

Footballamericain.com: You have majored in Business Economics. What would be your plan after Football?

Matt Paradis: Well I actually double majored in Finance and Business Economics, but after football is over I want to go into the finance sector and possibly be a financial planner.

Footballamericain.com: Tell us about your hobbies when you are off the field?

Matt Paradis: I am an outdoors guy, so any hunting or fishing I am very interested in. Other than that I play a little bit of video games, and then just hanging out with family and friends.

Footballamericain.com: A question for the French public: If I told you “France”, what comes to your mind?

Matt Paradis: When I think of France the first thing that comes to mind is just that France is a place that I have always wanted to visit at some point in the future.

Footballamericain.com: Football is developing progressively in France and our Elite championship is attracting more and more ex NCAA DIV I players. Were you aware of this trend?

Matt Paradis: I was not specifically aware, but I am glad to see that happen.

Footballamericain.com: Thanks a lot for your time, and we wish you all the best for the coming draft. Any means to follow you through the internet?

Matt Paradis: Yes, you can follow me on Twitter. My handle is @two_dice.

Je ne vois pas de différence entre ce qu'il fait et ce qu'il est. C'est une façon artistique de jouer en ligne offensive. Il fait paraître la tâche facile.  – DeDe Muñoz à propos de son mari Anthony

En VO :  I don't see any contrast between what he does and the way he is. It's an artistic way of playing the offensive line. He makes it look easy.
